Donuts would be so disorienting. At least since you are the undercarriage, you're reasonably well protected in the case of a rollover.

Reminds me of the wheelers in Return to OZ. Freaked me out when I was a kid.
Hard to tell from the screen cap but the way they moved was something out of nightmares.
